Pianist/Composer/Producer and Whisperings artist, Lisa Hilton is on the current Grammy Nominations Ballot for her latest release, "Midnight In Manhattan" in five different categories. They are, "Best Pop Instrumental Performance" for "Hit The Road Jack", Best Instrumental Composition for "Midnight In Manhattan", Best Instrumental Arrangement for Henry Mancini's "Moon River", Best Jazz Album and Best Engineered Album/ NonClassical for Al Schmitt.
Grammy nominations are fiercely competitive with only a 2%-6% change of winning in these categories. Anyone nominated, has a 20% chance of winning, so being nominated is quite an honor.
Surprisingly, women make up less than 5% of those on the ballot in these instrumental categories, and have not fared well for winning either. No woman has won a Grammy for Best Jazz Album, Best Instrumental Arrangement, or Best Pop Instrumental in the last 10 years. In composing, Annie Lennox and Madonna have both won Grammy's recently.
Grammy nominations will be announced by NARAS on December 12th, 2006. Awards take place February 11th 2007 at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.
