10th Anniversary!
10 years ago today, December 22nd 1997, I sat down at a piano and recorded my first album, which became known as "Thoughts and Affections."
At the time I had no idea what would come of it. But I heard a "calling" to get my music out there... sometimes very literally from family and friends!
10 years later, and now with 4 albums, a website, and my own music business, I can look back on the beginning of this journey and know that I would never be where I am today if it hadn't been for you.
Thank you for your wonderful support over the years! I look forward to bringing you much more music in the next 10 years... and the next.... and the next!
I hope you all have a blessed Christmas!

Solomon Keal's Music Newsletter
Welcome to the September edition of my Music Newsletter.
I've spent much of the year so far working on projects for other
people in my home recording studio. This has been a lot of fun, but
it has meant that I haven't had much to write about lately, in regards
to my own solo piano music.
Also, my wife and I just had our third child, a boy named Jaden Micah
Keal. So lately, I've been spending less time at the piano, and more
time changing diapers!
But I wanted to give you something new to read and listen to, so I
managed to add a new page to my website which contains demos of some
of the music I've been creating in my studio this year. On this page
you will find:
1. A "first take" recording from the up-coming flute and piano album
with my sister Roxanne.
2. Some sneak peaks of some of the music I've been composing for a
documentary about Glencairn Museum.
3. A fun upbeat rock piece that I wrote, performed and recorded this summer.
4. A song from the Kempton New Church Men's A Cappella Christmas
album, "Earth Today Rejoices," which I sang in, and recorded. All
proceeds from the sale of this album go to my local church.
5. ... And More!
I hope you will enjoy listening to the music on my Studio Demos page:

May 9th Update from Matthew Tavis Johnson
Hi everybody! My new album "Walk With Me" was released recently, and I wanted to let the Wisperings community know!
A little bit about 'Walk With Me' released April 23, 2007…
A new CD, entitled "Walk With Me", is out!! Sorry for the delay but yes, I have finally released my 2nd album!! Most of the songs were written over the past year to two years; it is a collage of friend and fan favorites. It has a variety of emotions within it, from the emotional "Natsuki's Song" to the fun and intense "Black Key Trilogy!" Check it out, you are sure to enjoy it! Feel free to write me anytime with questions!
My website and free sheet music…
As many of you may have already seen, I now have an 'official' website at http://www.matthewtavisjohnson.com/. I haven't updated it much yet, but plan to update it more and more as time goes on. If you play piano or know someone who does, feel free to download the "A Glimpse at Happiness" sheet music from the "Sheet Music" page on my website. Starting Monday, it will be taken off 'free' status again, so download it while you can! J I have been getting a lot of requests for various sheet music – which is awesome! Please be patient on that end: I am working hard to get more sheet music made and released. The next sheet music will be for the song "Bem's Theme" which I plan to have ready within 2-3 months.
Future plans…
I went into the studio and recorded a new album called "The Light CD" which is actually half of a project, the other have (as you may have guessed!) Will be called "The Dark CD." I'm really excited for this to release because I think it is my best work yet! The Light CD will focus more on happy songs primarily a major key, and the Dark CD will focus on intense/sad songs in a Minor key. There isn't an estimated delivery date on this product yet, but there will be one soon, and I will keep everyone posted on that with all of the details etc. I am now doing home concerts as well, so if you are interested and in the Oregon/Washington area please contact me and I can send over the appropriate details. They will eventually be up on my website as well.
Closing….
Thank you so much everyone for reading through this and supporting me, I can't explain how much it means to me. As I mentioned earlier, if you ever have any questions/comments/ANYTHING don't feel hesitant to contact me about it, I always love hearing from you guys!

Solomon Keal - Peaceful Solo Piano Music
First: I'm happy to announce that I have a New Website! It looks really cool and has some great new features, which I could spend a long time talking about, but really you should just go see for yourself! Check it out at the same address: http://www.solomonkeal.com/.
One of the new features that I will mention now is a new audio player on the Listen/Buy page. (You may notice that the player does not include music from the album "Heritage." This is just a technical glitch that will be remedied shortly.) You can actually buy and download music directly off of this player, as well as simply listen to short clips of my music.
O.K., one more thing that I'll mention about the new website is a Rates Page. This page lists all of my rates for the various services I can provide including, Booking Rates, Licensing Rates, Recording Studio Rates, Piano Lesson Rates, Commission Rates, Consulting Rates, and Product Prices.
Second: I'm happy to announce that my first piece of Sheet Music is now available to purchase and download. The sheet music is for the piece entitled "Star Gazing," from the album, "Thoughts and Affections." To find out how to purchase and download this sheet music, click here, or choose any of the Sheet Music links on my website.
Please let me know if you have requests for which of my compositions you would like to see in sheet music form. I will start assembling a Request List, and I will notate my music on a first-come-first-serve basis.
I hope you have a great day!
Sincerely yours,
Solomon Keal

New Jazz Piano Method by Bradley Sowash
In lieu of a blurb, here's a description/review from
http://www.PianoAtPepper.com:
"Fun and fantastic! Great on its own or as a supplement to any piano method, That's Jazz is perfect for the adolescent and adult student who wants to learn the main styles of jazz (swing, Latin and rock) and have loads of fun playing the piano. Written by acclaimed jazz
pianist, composer and educator Bradley Sowash, this method will give your students a huge dose of inspiration. The three books in the series progress from the early intermediate to late intermediate levels. Each book offers awesome original jazz tunes by Bradley Sowash. All aspects of playing jazz are clearly explained in digestible doses. Students are given plenty of opportunities to try new concepts and to improvise. The enclosed CD includes a performance
of each tune in the respective collection, including the duet part. Highly recommended, especially for the teen student."

New CD Release by Laura Sullivan: Feast of Joy & Love
Laura Sullivan recently released her fourth CD on her independent label, Sentient Spirit Records. This new album is titled Feast of Joy & Love. An enticing banquet for the ears, it features a blend of piano with ethereal vocals and other acoustic instruments such as violin, saxophone and percussion. In a creative twist to the standard record organization, the songs are set up as a menu including appetizers, first & second courses and dessert. The music is relaxing and soothing while delving into heartfelt realms inspired by Laura Sullivan's personal life experiences connected with joy and love.
The songs on Feast of Joy & Love consist of Laura's own compositions along with several classical adaptations which have surprising variations. The opening track, a medley of Bach favorites, is titled Bouquet of Bach. Waltzing with Beethoven, adapted from the Sonata Pathetique, is changed to a new time signature of ¾ time. Albinoni's Secret Smile, is an arrangement of the traditional Albinoni's Adagio (sometimes referred to as the saddest song in classical music) with an unexpected joyful key change. Ala M'Ode to Joy, based on Beethoven's Ode to Joy, also astonishes us with an altered time signature to ¾ time. Also included among the delicacies is a new arrangement of Greensleeves using lyrics from a mysterious dialect. Laura Sullivan employs her sensitive piano techniques that have appeared on her previous albums, and makes her vocal debut with rich layers of angelic harmony in Feast of Joy & Love.
Raised in a musical family, Laura began playing piano at 4 years old. At age 8 she was writing compositions and by 18 had composed a body of work, including 6 feature length musicals for children which were performed with Laura's troupe, Star Company Children's Theater. Laura is a member of the piano artist collective Whisperings founded by composer, pianist and radio host, David Nevue. Two of her releases were produced by renowned artist Chris Camozzi, (appearing with artists Jeff Lorber, Michael
RJ Lannan of the New Age Reporter writes, "Laura Sullivan's music shimmers with an effervescent vitality." Laura's release, Mystical America, was designated the number one best New Age album of 2004 by Bill Binkelman of Wind and Wire.
Laura Sullivan's new album, Feast of Joy & Love, is available at:

And at online retailers Apple iTunes, Amazon.com as well as wholesale through Sentient Spirit Records. Please visit http://www.laura-sullivan.com/ for further details.

So, if you've ever bought any tracks from my CDs on iTunes, but not the whole CD, and you would like to get the rest of the CD, Apple will honor this retroactively up to 90 days from now, for any purchases you made within the past four years (since iTunes first was
launched).

I spent a good portion of this last month working on a really fun studio project. Nowadays it's pretty easy to find the soundtrack to a current movie. But there are many movies from not-that-long-ago that don't have soundtracks which you can purchase. Someone recently hired
me to create a soundtrack from an older movie. Using my digital audio sequencing software I was able to cut out dialogue and create a pretty fun soundtrack, edited straight from the movie!
My Sibelius notation software has arrived. Soon I will be learning how to use it, and then I will start to create sheet music, both of my own compositions and for my local church's new song book.
My wife and I had fun performing at the "Caring For Marriage Conference" in Bryn Athyn in February.

Pianist Lisa Hilton performs at Perkins School for the Blind in Boston
“Perkins is such a cool school,” Hilton remarked about Helen Keller's alma mater. “There are so many musicians who come to Boston to visit The Berklee College of Music, where the finest musical students go, but music is for everyone and there are good musicians here too. I like working with Perkins students, and I know they appreciate it - I love to see the smiles on their faces when they hear the music.”
Hilton has also worked in California with blind and visually impaired children and teens, as well as helping to provide music bus-in programs for sighted children. “I became frustrated in the past when I suggested that the group I was working with provide a music concert for the blind and handicapped, and I was told that they couldn't do it because of 'liability issues'. That kind of thinking doesn't go over too well with me,” Hilton says wearily, “children and teens with handicaps are kids that we should embrace, not distance ourselves from. Music programs around the country have been dealt funding blows - I am committed as a professional musician to reaching out to all students - not just the most gifted or physically able.”
The event was covered by local newspapers and spotlighted on Boston's CBS affiliate, with videos also appearing on the internet. “When I taught the music class it felt like the paparazzi were there,” Hilton recalls, “but I could tell they were touched by how special a campus that Perkins is. You hear so many negative stories about the media, but all I saw were compassionate reporters and camera crews - I think they all spent a lot more time than they had planned to! When we were finishing up, I looked at one of the cameramen and said, 'it's fun here, isn't it?' He was in complete agreement. It's rewarding to see people recognize that handicapped teens, not just celebrity teens, deserve our attention too.”
Hilton also draws some of her inspiration in working with the blind and visually impaired and specifically helping Perkins students, from her family. The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation funds some of Perkins's programming in the U.S. and abroad.
Music is an important part of the curriculum at Perkins, and the first school for the blind in the United States has more than 30,000 music books, scores and instructional recordings. For the visually impaired, the sense of sound is critically important to safely and successfully navigating and interacting with the outside world.
Hilton's latest CD, “Midnight in Manhattan,” is her eighth album and currently on jazz radio around the world. As one reviewer has stated, “In pianist Lisa Hilton's case, one hears echoes of such greats as Stan Getz, Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson.” Lisa Hilton's award-winning music is available at most online sources, iTunes and at her website, www.LisaHiltonMusic.com.
Perkins is the first school for the blind in the country, where Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, were educated. Today Perkins serves more than 70,000 people who are blind, deafblind or visually impaired with multiple disabilities-from babies to school-age children to elders-on campus, in the community and in 60 developing countries around the world. For more information, please visit www.Perkins.org.
For information about helping blind and visually impaired students in your community contact: The Junior Blind of America, at www.juniorblind.org.
Steinway provided a concert grand for the concert and The Back Bay Hilton Hotel also supported the visit.
Hilton is available for additional interviews and can be reached by contacting Paul Jean at 617-482-0042.

Solomon Keal's Music Newsletter, January 2007
Welcome to the January 2007 edition of my music newsletter! Happy
New Year!
2006 was my second year in business as Peace of Heaven Music! It
wasn't quite as good a year as 2005... financially speaking that is.
CD sales were slightly lower, probably due to the rush of "Advent"
sales last Christmas. I didn't do as much performing in 2006. I
also didn't have any piano students. I did however do some
consulting, and my studio income was higher. Expenses were higher
in 2006 too, especially because I upgraded several things in my
studio, including a new computer, a new microphone, and new
software.
But it was great to be, yet another year, doing what I truly love...
music!
"Peace of Heaven" sales have been going pretty well. The CD is
available for $15.00. You can purchase it online from my website
(SolomonKeal.com) as well as from FountainPublishing.com. You can
also order it directly from me by sending me an email. Also check
your local New Church bookstore. You can now download individual
tracks from "Peace of Heaven" off of iTunes for $0.99 per track.
Kathy Parsons of Solo Piano Publications has written a nice review of
"Peace of Heaven," which you can read here:
http://www.solopianopublications.com/reviews/keal.htm.
I now have a new website devoted to the services that I provide! If
you have any questions about my booking rates, recording studio
rates, music licensing rates, piano lesson rates, commission rates,
consulting rates, or CD prices, go to
http://peaceofheavenmusic.blogspot.com.
Speaking of CD prices, here is my latest deal (I know I keep changing
the details on you):
As a subscriber to this newsletter, when you order 1 or 2 CDs
directly from me (at $15.00 a piece), you get Free Shipping. When
you order 3 or more CDs directly from me, you get CDs for $11.00 a
piece, plus shipping. Just send me an email to take advantage of
this deal.
My priorities for 2007 are:
1. Make sheet music available for my music.
(A majority of the emails I've received lately have been a request
for this. So it will happen this year!)
Speaking of sheet music, if any of you have specific requests for
which pieces you would like in sheet music form, please let me know.
I will work on requests first.
2. Work on another album.
(This could be any number of album concepts including: a flute and
piano album with my sister, another Christmas album with voices and
other instruments, an album of love songs with my wife, a blues and
jazz piano album... we'll see which one wins out.)
3. I'm working on scoring a documentary for Glencairn Museum.
4. I will be writing and illustrating my first book this year, which
is a new area for me; not music, but definitely still creative.
So it looks like I have another full year ahead of me!
As always, don't forget to check out Whisperings Solo Piano Radio
(http://www.solopianoradio.com) where my music is being played.
I hope you all have a wonderful 2007!
